This week I have been at my sister’s house (where I technically live), helping out since my sister hasn’t been feeling well. My niece and nephew are the CUTEST. Ben is three and Alina is one and they just kill me.
I am called Auntie Snuffy in this house. Snuffy was a nickname given to me by our friends’ daughter who was three at the time. She kind of forgot my name and made up her own that sounded close and it was an instant hit. Emily and Kirby and my friends from grad school are also big fans and call me “Snuff” to this day.
Although I have seen both of my sister’s kids at least once a month since they were born, and feel like they are almost my own kids, I do feel like a fish out of water sometimes. After a day of babysitting I’m like, “Why am I SO. TIRED? All I did was get milk, make food, change the cartoons every once and a while, and yell at Ben when he was trying to tear the house down. It’s wasn’t THAT big of a deal.” But watching kids is like a whole different world. It’s just draining in a way that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Especially if you aren’t in Kid World very often.
That doesn’t mean I don’t have a ton of fun with these miniature adorable people. Yesterday Ben and I decided to make a bouquet for Mary from flowers in the back yard, and he was so cute about it.
It’s so fun to be the Auntie and do fun stuff with them. It’s also fun to stock up on embarrassing anecdotes I can tell them when they’re teenagers. And cash in on any favor by saying “You almost got poop on me like 325,897 times.”
I can’t forget adorable Alina, who we (almost always) call Baby Sister. Who can resist this face??
P.S. Meanwhile, at Anthony’s house…
His roommate decided to label ALL THE THINGS in the house.
…and add faces (plus accessories?) to the produce.
We’re also combining our bedding for a funny girly+masculine look. Haha.
Hope you are finding ways to have fun wherever you are living!
