Surviving Mardi Gras

Hello all you lovely people. I have been MIA since I left for Mardi Gras a while back to meet up with some good friends who insisted on moving across the country to very inconvenient places. Since then I have been trying desperately to catch up at work, plus Anthony hasn’t been feeling well, and just, you know – life. BUT – I wanted to share some pictures with you from my attempt at surviving Mardi Gras. Some thoughts on this experience:

  1. They really need better beer in New Orleans.
  2. You think that catching beads is something you don’t care about until you CATCH SOME. Then it is ON.
  3. No, I did not flash anyone.
  4. I had a spiritual experience with macaroni and cheese during my stay, and I now know what “soul food” really means.

Hope you enjoy!

I am a hippie from California, so it was hard for me to accept that the only real way to get rid of your trash was to throw it on the ground. I would try to stack my cups and shove trash in it and hold it as long as I could - even though they had very thorough street cleanings every day. #hippiehabitsdiehard

A New Year for Miss Mélange

Miss Mélange turns 1 today!

It’s officially been a year since we launched the blog, and it has been amazing – mostly because of how sweet and wonderful our readers are! Thank you for reading, liking, and commenting. It really means the world to us to get your feedback.

This blog all started when Emily called me with a crazy idea: what if we started a blog together, along with her sister-in-law, Katherine? We are all creative, we love to write, and we love clothes and our respective coastal cities. We had so much fun designing the site, getting used to writing posts, picking out a name, and talking about topics.

Katherine wrote a few awesome posts and then had to bow out – with a newborn and a toddler, it was just too much! Emily and I kept going and saw how challenging blogging can be. Staying inspired, making time for it, and being vulnerable – it’s a lot. We started the blog when I was unemployed, and transitioning to working full time was a challenge. Emily was also dealing with a lot but we had a lot of fun chatting about changing our banner and archives, future posts and photo shoots, our goals… it was a blast.

Now Emily has an announcement that we have been meaning to share, that will change the course of Miss Mélange once again:

Hey guys! I’m really sad to be writing this, but also so excited about new possibilities ahead. After this post, this blog will belong entirely to my talented and ever inspiring bff, Stephanie. After going back and forth for a long time I realized that it was time to let blogging go in order to make more room in my life for other new and exciting things (like moving to Santa Cruz!!) as well as eliminating some unnecessary stress. As much as I LOVED planning and designing this blog with Steph, I have to move on. I learned so much, like how to set up and design blogs, dabble in social media, and that being open and sharing things even when it’s scary can be super liberating and therapeutic.

Just for the record, none of this has anything to do with something bad happening or Steph and I having issues with each other. In fact we love each other just as much as ever. When we had the convo about me bowing out we got all mushy and basically talked about how much we like and respect each other the whole time. So if there are any conspiracy theorists thinking there’s some big meltdown going on either with me or our friendship, worry not. Everything is great! I’m so excited to see all the great content Steph has coming our way and I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me from time to time via guest posts.

So woop! There it is. Miss Mélange is now wonderful Stephanie’s blog. Love ya, girl.

So I am now embarking on my own as the sole editor of Miss Mélange! I think it was fitting that we made this decision by the one year anniversary of the blog. I’m excited for the next year, although I will miss Emily’s content A LOT. She cooks, she does amazing DIY projects, and knows how to live a life chemical-free… I can only promise that I will try to relay her wisdom to you all as much as possible!

Thank you all so much, again, for your support. I can’t tell you how much it means when I get a sweet or thoughtful comment on a post, or a text saying my friend read something they loved, or meeting a friend of a friend who has read the blog. I love writing and sharing with you, and I look forward to many more fascinating conversations together!
