Work has been going really well – I just got back from a business trip to our office in Tempe, which made me feel very fancy. I just adulted so hard all week.

I wore a pencil skirt the day I left and felt so business-y walking through the airport pulling my little carry on around. I’m pretty sure I looked important and powerful. I wanted a sign that said “I’m a fancy lady woman going on a working woman’s business trip, just so you know.”

I got to get a taxi and eat and stay in a hotel and not care how much it cost because WORK WAS PAYING Y’ALL. The hotel was so fun. With this whole sharing economy, etc, I haven’t ridden in a taxi or stayed in a hotel in years, and I kind of felt like I never would again. But Uber didn’t have any cars around the airport and WORK WAS PAYING so I got to taxi it to this great hotel in Tempe with a pool and gym and a king bed. It had three sets of pillows. Because three people could sleep in there. At once.

Anywayyyyy, I wanted to give you a little update to my cubicle status since I know you are all dying to hear what has happened since I finally got magnets at Staples. My cubicle is mostly, like, metal under fabric? So if I wanted to hang more things I needed magnets. This took me weeks to cross of my list, but Anthony had to go to Staples for something and here we are (someone else always needs to be involved in order for me to get chores done). Check out more of my desk cuteness here.

I also looted an empty cubicle and got that lamp to make me feel a little more homey.

And look at this cute mouse pad I got on Etsy!

….So, I totally realize that no one actually cares about this.

But what you might care about is the awesome print that my sister gave me, which she drew herself, and which is making my cubicle look soooo swanky.

She has a ton of cute prints for your desk or office in her Etsy shop. Here are some of my favorites (click on the picture to see the listing):

They come in all different colors, so you can match it to the scheme you’ve got goin on in your work space. I love these because no one else will have them, and they look so clean, yet artsy. Plus the gold effect on a lot of her prints make me feel blingy.

(She also has adorable prints that are great for nurseries or kids rooms. If you have a baby shower or birthday coming up, these are the PERFECT gift. Hand made, thoughtful, and way better than diapers with a bow on it.)

What do you decorate your work space with? What makes you feel productive and stylish? I’m always looking for new ways to make my desk awesome and shame all the other people around me with their boring cubes…. Share your tips!

Bookshelf Styling

Who needs bookends?

Anthony put up shelves when we moved in to save space and we never got around to getting bookends… We only have two, but had much more than one shelf. I kind of got creative in the meantime and it hasn’t been an issue since. Stacking books on the ends has given me room to add some decor and interest to the shelves with that flat surface. I like adding candles and frames into the mix to make it more interesting.

The framed painting is actually a card that my dad made. He painted the front and folded the watercolor paper and made the card himself. Amazing.

I like the idea of using thrifted/found objects as bookends, too. If you are like me and think that bookends on Amazon are either too expensive or too ugly, try using something like this tea pot or vintage cookie tin and putting rocks or something to weigh it down inside.

It makes your shelves more interesting and can add a splash of color – or even serve as a vase! When I have fresh flowers, I put a plastic cup over the rocks inside the cookie tin, cut the flowers super short, and voilà!

We have even gone so far as to use this random megaphone that we inherited from Anthony’s old place (who knows where it came from) as a bookend too! I guess we’re not afraid of our place showing some of our personality.

The last thing that I love about our shelves is the color. I decided one day to do as Pinners do and group all my books by color to give a rainbow effect – and I absolutely love it. It makes me feel like it is styled and purposeful – not just a bunch of random books thrown together in one place.

I love that it is such a focal point in our place, and I am so proud of Anthony for doing all the leveling and drilling… I only had to pick out the brackets and paint the shelves!

Do you have any styling tips for shelves and surfaces? What is your favorite focal point in your place?

Office Swag

Lately I have been trying to make myself a little haven in my cubicle from the stale corporate decor throughout my work building.

It really is cheap and easy to make your desk just as stylish and colorful as you are. I was lazy for a while, but once I brought a few cheery things in, it made such a difference.

1 ~ This of course grabbed my attention at Michael’s – gotta have a little bling.

2 ~ This was a Christmas present from Anthony’s family. Get something similar here.

3 ~ These were also an irrestistible purchase at Michael’s. However, as you can see, I have yet to find anything to clip these to to make it adorable yet…

4 ~ Stole this from my Sociology department in grad school. Find something similar in your local university.

5 ~ Found this on Pinterest and printed it out, but you can get a nice print of it here.

6 ~ I got this back in college at a sidewalk sale of posters and prints. Find something similar here.

7 ~ Michael’s – by the way, that “to do list” is really a “things I have been ‘meaning’ to do for months, and I’m not really sure when/if they will ever happen because they are the worst types of errands ever…list”

8 ~ I got this on Etsy – find something similar here.

9 ~ Got this from my boss. Always nice to have some industry-specific humor goin on.

10 ~ This purplish vase was a fun find at a thrift store forever ago. Once I moved in with Anthony, the purple color scheme of my room faded away and this is a reminder of my single girly room days.

11 ~ This filing box was a hand-me-down from my sister, but you can find something similar here. It adds some nice color to all the grey and tan…

12 ~ Another print from that college sidewalk sale. Found another cool print here.

Isn’t my family adorable?

13 ~ Fake plant from T.J. Maxx. How do people take care of a living plant in an office with no windows near by? I don’t get it.

14 ~ CUTE notepad I got at T.J. Maxx, too. I don’t know if I would ever have any money if we had one in Santa Barbara. Thank goodness I have some safe distance from it, an hour away.

15 ~ My friend Amy got me these in grad school when I was writing my thesis on Facebook. Oh, you’re interested in reading a 60 page sociology paper on gender, Facebook, and self-presentation, you say? Fear not. Go ahead and nerd out, my fellow weirdo.

Image-1 (9)

16 ~ I also found these at good ‘ol Michael’s. I love the redwoods one – reminds me of home!

P.S. Why haven’t I taken the plastic off some of these?… Maybe it’ll keep them clean? What’s wrong with me.

Image-1 (8)

17 ~ I don’t drink beer at work. But I like to think about drinking beer at work. It’s motivation to get through the day. Plus this had pink flowers that MATCHED STUFF, OKAY? I just use it for my tea.

18 ~ Another adorable notepad from T.J. Maxx – it was only a couple of bucks! And, like the coaster, provides motivation. Apparently I need a lot of motivation.

So I overloaded you with a ton of prints, but I just really like trolling Etsy. However, if you want REALLY cute prints that are from an amazing artist that will make your work space cute and adored by your entire office, check out my sister’s prints on her Etsy page. Here’s one of my favorites:

Pinspiration: Home Decor

As you may know, Anthony and I moved into a new place a little while back. We are so in love with it and we’re going crazy trying to decorate it in the perfect way.

While things are still coming together (aka waiting for the curtain rods to be shipped to us, seeing where my paintings will go once I pick them up from Emily’s house where they’ve been living, etc…) I have been trying to get inspiration for the general “vibe” of what I want our place to look like, before I pull the trigger on a lot of the decorations.

Here are some of my favorite pins lately – I am addicted to Pinterest right now to gather as many ideas for our place as possible.

Living room inspiration:

Bedroom Inspiration:

As you may have guessed, we are going for a colorful, cozy, eclectic look for the living room and a calm vibe with mint and navy for the bedroom. I can’t wait to show you guys more as it develops!

What is inspiring your home decor look right now?
